Knowledge Is The Key To Locked Doors

We’ve all been there. Going to our 9–5, coming home, and then playing video games all day. We hate our 9–5 but we love our free time. Maybe we love our 9–5 and have decided to stick with it for the rest of our lives. There is nothing wrong with loving your job. There is nothing wrong with maximizing your free time with as much rest as possible. There is nothing wrong with any of this as long as it brings contentment and happiness. You are your own person and you have the right to use up your time in anyway you please!

But, what if there is a world of doors out there that are locked? What if the only way to unlock these doors is to develop new skills and train in new areas? What kind of experience would it be to live in this type of world? There is no need to ask that question. This is the world we live in today. Many people are becoming laid off and losing their jobs at an alarming rate, and have limited options on where to go next because of their lack of skills. The saying “When one door closes, another opens” should actually be “When one door closes, so are the rest. You need a key to open them”. What about side hustles? Sure, you can do Lyft/Uber. I do it myself and am excited to write articles on the topic! But, what if you took a digital marketing course and did that as well? What if you read a book on how to give people the best experience as a business owner and apply it to Lyft/Uber? This would be a key to a locked door!

People are intimidated by education because they believe that it is expensive. This is far from the truth. There are countless resources online that are cheap, and more that are absolutely free. I learned most of the syntax for the computer programming language “Python” from a 4 hour YouTube video. I have 3 courses on Udemy that I bought that cover these topics:

  1. Python (Average Salary: $117,491 (Jr Developer: $79,625))
  2. Machine Learning (Average Salary: $140,364)
  3. Web Development (Average Salary: $71,016)

These courses combined were under $100. Now, I don’t want this to make you think that doing courses will get you easy access to jobs. Part of acquiring keys to locked doors is practice, practice, practice. There is nothing wrong with college if that is the route you want to take. College has many pros, but many companies are starting to recognize these learning platforms as a sufficient route to successfully adding value to their business:

  1. Udemy
  2. Khan Academy
  3. Coursera

Knowledge is good for finding employment or being an employer. Sure, there are many locked doors that pertain to that specific area, but there are many more that pertain to who you are as a person. Books and resources on habit building provide keys to locked doors. Reading Medium and Quora instead of scrolling through Facebook and Instagram may provide keys to locked doors. Going to the gym instead of the bar may provide keys to locked doors. We are living in a world where access to any information we want is on a screen in our pockets, and using this device correctly is a key to locked doors.

Whether it’s about employment or personal development, knowledge is a beautiful blessing. So many people let life pass by them each and every day without learning something new. Studies show that humans are designed to progress. Learning actually pumps serotonin and dopamine to the brain! Let’s use the worlds resources to our advantage and use it to better who we are.
